What running shoes do some of you long distant runners like to wear?

Question by tony p: What running shoes do some of you long distant runners like to wear?
I run about 15-20 miles a week and sometimes when I push to hard I get shin splints in my legs. I am wondering if I am not wearing the right shoes for running on pavement. Or am I doing something fundamentaly wrong when I run. What running shoes do some of you folks like to wear.

Brooks all the way.
Everyone says Asics but I personally don’t like them
Nike has crappy running shoes

i would avoid nikes long distant running shoes they may make good cleats, vapors, and maybe good sprinting shoes but when it comes to running shoes either asics or new balance

  2. jessty14 says:

Mizuno Wave Rider or other Mizuno shoes.

  3. YSIC says:

Asics, New Balance and Saucony all make good long-distance running shoes.

As someone else said, Nikes are good for short distances, sprinting and basic aerobic activity (if you ask me, they are all for show as they “look cool”). But if you want a quality shoe, go with one of the above.
    Good luck!

Brooks are really comfortable for long distances.. Just try to stay away from Nike, they aren’t the best.

    HI,
I’m familiar with most of the brands, and doing more than 100 miles a week.
    1. The first thing you should ask is if it is the right shoes for you?
    2. Are you doing some strength exercises as a preparation for the hard runs?

The answer may lie in the way you run. Make sure you’re not over striding as well, because overstriding leads to injuries specifically shin splints.

As for what running shoe I like, I personally like Asics and asics only.

Running on pavement isn’t a bright idea.

Edit: Stay the hell away from Nikes.

I like Reebok. I bought three of them online from shoebuy.com.

It is an individual experience for sure. What is good for one runner is not necessarily good for another. What you should do is go to a running store that is reputable and try on some different shoes. I used to wear Asics, but now I wear Mizuno. I do not care about any other brands and I chose the latter because although they are similar to the former, they are lighter for racing.

You need to know whether you have high arches, flat feet, or neutral arches before you can chose a runner. Also, if you wear or need orthopedics, you need to ask your orthopedic doctor whether or not you should wear orthopedics in your runners.
